WellPoint to Offer No Cost Blood Glucose Meters to Members

New Pharmacy Management Program Helps Customers Manage Diabetes and Reduce Out-of-Pocket Expenses

INDIANAPOLIS, Feb. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- WellPoint, Inc. (NYSE: WLP) today announced a new pharmacy management program to help eligible members manage their diabetes and reduce their out-of-pocket expenses by offering select blood glucose meters at no cost to members. The program is one of many value added customer-focused disease management programs offered by WellPoint.

Monitoring blood glucose levels is an essential element of care for the more than 20 million Americans managing their diabetes. "By offering free glucose meters, WellPoint is helping its health plan and self-insured plan members to manage their diabetes effectively, while at the same time helping to control their out-of-pocket costs," said Renwyck Elder, president of WellPoint NextRx, a division of WellPoint, Inc.

The program is open to eligible members who are diabetic and require monitoring of their blood sugar. Physicians will be notified with a letter about the voluntary program along with educational materials about the available glucose meters.
