WellPoint and Dell Redefine Business' Approach to Environmental Leadership

WellPoint Is Founding Partner of Dell's "Plant a Forest for Me" Program

INDIANAPOLIS, Sept. 26 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- WellPoint, Inc. (NYSE: WLP) announced today that it is partnering with Dell to redefine the way businesses approach environmental leadership with the "Plant a Forest for Me" initiative. This new program enables organizations worldwide to facilitate the planting of millions of trees in sustainably managed reforestation projects to offset a portion of their overall carbon footprint.

"We are committed to the continued growth of our company in environmentally sensitive ways," said Mark Boxer, president and chief executive officer, Operations, Technology and Government Services Business Unit of WellPoint, Inc. "This includes minimizing our environmental impact through smart business practices and partnerships to advance green strategies, such as the 'Plant a Forest for Me' initiative. We look forward to working with Dell to implement a flagship environmental stewardship program that will attract businesses from around the world."

"Protecting our climate is one of the most important and difficult challenges we face today," said Tod Arbogast, director of Sustainable Business at Dell Inc. "We commend WellPoint for playing a vital role in building a worldwide community of partners dedicated to a cleaner environment. Our shared earth deserves no less."

The "Plant a Forest for Me" partnership is the newest of WellPoint's environmentally-responsible initiatives. As a company, WellPoint: recycles 55 percent of the waste it produces each year; utilizes online applications and forms for a majority of its member, provider and employee communications; and safely discards its electronic assets in a way that minimizes their impact on the environment.

Dell launched "Plant a Tree for Me" in January 2007 to provide consumers the opportunity to offset the CO2 emissions related to the use of their computer equipment. The company partners with The Conservation Fund and Carbonfund.org, non-profit organizations that plant trees in sustainably managed reforestation projects.

Beginning today, any organization can partner with Dell and WellPoint in "Plant a Forest for Me." Other founding partners include ABN AMRO, Ask.com and Salesforce.com. For more information, visit www.dell.com/plantaforest.
